Helping Children Build Skills Through Structured, Positive Support

Some children need extra guidance when it comes to following routines, expressing their needs, or handling big feelings. Others might struggle with focus or social interaction. At ESL Philippines, our Early Intervention Class uses the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to support these young learners in a way that is gentle, consistent, and effective.
ABA is a proven approach that helps children learn by breaking down skills into small, clear steps and building positive habits through encouragement and reinforcement.
What Is ABA and How Does It Work?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a method based on the science of learning and behavior. It helps us understand how a child’s actions are shaped by what happens before and after a behavior. ABA uses this understanding to teach meaningful skills that help children grow more independent and successful in daily life.
Using ABA, we can help children:
- Communicate more clearly
- Follow directions and routines
- Focus and participate in activities
- Learn to play and interact with others
- Reduce problem behaviors by replacing them with better choices
One of the most important parts of ABA is positive reinforcement. When a child shows helpful behavior, they receive something meaningful in return, like praise, a small reward, or access to a favorite toy or activity. This helps the child learn that positive behavior brings positive outcomes.
Another key part is understanding the ABC model:
Antecedent – what happens before a behavior
Behavior – the child’s action or response
Consequence – what happens right after the behavior
By looking closely at these three parts, teachers and therapists can guide children toward better ways of responding and learning.

What Happens in ESL’s ABA-Informed Class?
At ESL Philippines, our ABA-based early intervention class provides structured, individualized support in a classroom setting. It is designed for young learners who need help adjusting to school routines or building early developmental skills.
Here’s what families can expect:
- A developmentally appropriate assessment to understand the child’s current skills and needs
- An Individualized Curriculum Plan (ICP) based on the child’s goals and learning style
- Daily sessions with trained Educational Interventionists using ABA strategies
- Clear and consistent routines that help the child feel secure and ready to learn
- Lots of practice and praise to build confidence and progress
- Regular updates for families including progress reports and meetings with the Inclusion Coordinator
Children work on real-life skills such as waiting for a turn, asking for help, or transitioning from one activity to another. Each child learns at their own pace, and lessons are adjusted based on how they respond.

What Makes ABA at ESL Unique?
Not one-size-fits-all:
Every child’s plan is customized. Teaching strategies match the child’s learning pace, needs, and strengths.
Educational, not clinical:
Our ABA-based support happens in a classroom, not a clinic. It is ideal for preparing children for real classroom routines.
Guided by trained professionals:
Classes are led by Educational Interventionists and monitored by SPED professionals and Inclusion Coordinators who are trained in ABA principles.
Parents are included:
We work closely with families. We share strategies that parents can use at home and welcome their input in planning.
Progress is closely monitored:
Teachers track behavior and learning using data. This helps us adjust goals and celebrate every small win.
Aligned with Philippine law:
Our program follows the goals of RA 11650, the ECCD Act, and the Data Privacy Act, promoting inclusive, respectful, and child-centered education.
