ESL Philippines recently represented the Philippines at UNITE 2026, an international networking event hosted by the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS) that brought together educators, researchers, clinicians, therapists, and advocates committed to advancing dyslexia, literacy, and inclusive education.
Representing ESL Philippines, School Director Paola Eunice V. Camacho presented a report on the Philippine dyslexia landscape, drawing attention to an issue that affects many learners yet often remains unseen—dyslexia as an invisible disability.

The presentation highlighted the progress the Philippines has made in raising awareness while also identifying areas that require continued attention. These include strengthening Philippine-based research, increasing public awareness, promoting earlier identification, improving access to evidence-based assessment and intervention, preparing more educators to support diverse learners, and fostering stronger collaboration among schools, universities, healthcare professionals, researchers, families, and government.
The report emphasized that improving outcomes for learners with dyslexia requires more than awareness alone. It calls for research that reflects the Philippine context, teachers equipped with practical and evidence-based strategies, accessible intervention programs, and partnerships that ensure children receive the support they need as early as possible.
UNITE 2026 also provided an opportunity to learn from international experts and exchange ideas with professionals from different educational systems. While each country faces unique challenges, the conference reinforced a common goal: building schools where every learner is recognized, supported, and given the opportunity to succeed.
For ESL Philippines, these international learnings are intended to create local impact.

For more than a decade, ESL Philippines has championed early childhood development, literacy, language development, and inclusive education through specialized educational programs, curriculum development, teacher development initiatives, and customized seminars for public and private schools, universities, and organizations across the Philippines.
Recognizing the growing need for dyslexia awareness and evidence-based literacy support, the organization continues to promote early identification, reading intervention, educator capacity-building, and practical classroom strategies that help learners with diverse reading needs thrive.
As part of this advocacy, ESL Philippines established www.inclusiveeducation.ph, a knowledge-sharing initiative dedicated to advancing early childhood development and inclusive education in the Philippines. The platform shares educational articles, conference insights, research updates, classroom strategies, professional learning opportunities, and advocacy initiatives designed to connect global research with local educational practice.
The insights gained from UNITE 2026 will be integrated into ESL Philippines’ teacher development programs, curriculum enhancement initiatives, and future seminars, helping ensure that international best practices become practical tools for Filipino educators.
While the conference has concluded, its impact continues. Every insight shared with a teacher, every strategy applied in a classroom, and every learner identified and supported earlier brings the Philippines one step closer to a more inclusive education system.
ESL Philippines remains committed to learning from the global community, sharing knowledge with the local education sector, and working alongside educators, researchers, schools, and families to help create classrooms where every Filipino learner is understood, valued, and given the opportunity to reach their full potential.
